Burnt Smell at Main Collection Tank
Question:
Our Centralux is 10 years old and today I noticed a burnt smell in the room, where it is located. Does that mean the motor is going? If yes, what motor do I have to order for Model E130G ?
Answer:
Yes, that burnt electrical smell means your motor is about to go. If you change it now you will have less issues such as the breaker going bad as well. The motor you need is http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=209C,730EXF,how2mtr&title=Motor+for+Electrolux+with+taper+bottom.

Canada Help and Parts
Question:
I have an Electrolux Central Vacuum system that I just love. It is about 22 years old. I've noticed lately that it screams loudly when I use it. From what I have read hear, it sounds like the motor is going. Is this correct? It shows Model#1590 and Serial number# C118667B LF2 Volts 120 Amps 13.0 HZ 60. I live in Canada.
Answer:
Yes, that is correct. If the noise is coming from the tank then it is your motor. You can use it until it smells burnt or just gives out. Replacing the motor is not difficult and we have excellent shipping to Canada. Please see our Electrolux Motor Replacement Page for help, parts and sales.

GFI Outlet and Central Vacuums
Question:
After running flawlessly for 2 years, my CentrLux Aerus, model E130J, serial M06265W has begun tripping the GFI outlet. I ran a seperate line to the vac (with a GFI outlet) and it continues to trip. Could the brushes be going bad to create this problem? Thanks ..........John Thomas
Answer:
Yes, the brushes could be going bad. However it is good pratice not to run a central vacuum on a GFI. They are only 15 amps. It is best to have it on a 20 amp alone. Remember that if anything else is ran on the GFI, or other GFI's in the home, it will surely trip if the vacuum is on as well.

Lights On But Motor Not Working
Question:
When I plug in my Electrolux tank vac the power supply light lights up and nothing else happens. A time or two in the past the vac would quit and do this if I was using it a lot. But it only had to set up to 5 minutes to turn back on again and work just great. Now it won't do anything when I turn it on. Colleen Loa, UT
Answer:
That would be a bad motor. Use your model number to cross reference the replacement on the motor replacement page for Beam, or contact your local dealer.

Power to Brush is Out
Question:
My central vacuum system runs normally but the power to the brush won't start. What is the problem? Peter from Vancouver
Answer:
There are a couple of failure points in the hose for electricity. On the wall end, the cord or two pin plug has a diode that can fail. You can't replace the diode and have to continuity test for diagnosis. In the handle there is a switch that can go bad, and there are some other connection points that rarely go bad. Here are videos that can help http://builtinvacuum.com/hoses/electrichoses-tech.html

Filter Removal
Question:
I would like to know how to remove & clean the filter on model 1590. My employer just moved into a house with this model. There is no manual & I pulled about 3 inches of dirt off the filter. Thank you for your time. Jane from Martintown , Ont.
Answer:
The vacuum unit separates around the middle and the lower bucket part drops off. Empty this into a plastic bag to cut down the dust. There will be a filter attached to the upper part. It is removed by undoing the latching mechanism on the bottom of it. Clean the filter with soap and water or replace it with a new one. If you wash it allow it to completely dry before installing. Use the information on this page for additional help or troubleshooting. http://builtinvacuum.com/help/electrolux.html

Exhaust Odor Solved
Question:
My 6500 sr smells when we use it. The exhaust smells like the dog even though no hair evident in the hose or intake. How do I fix it, tried new filter but didn't help, only gets better when a completely empty bag is used but once anything gets in there it starts to stink again
Answer:
Spray Lysol on paper towels and suck them through the hose. Let them sit in the unit. This will help disinfect and deoderize.

Vacuum Head Cycle On/Off
Question:
Jan; Anchorage, AK Electrolux Epic 6500sr: The carpet power head goes on and off repeatedly, in quick succession, while in use (the main unit runs fine). All other attachments work fine. Could a bad reset button be the cause? If so, can you assist in finding a replacement? Thank you!
Answer:
Actually sounds like a short or a motor going bad. We suggest taking it into a traditional vac shop for repair.

Electrolux No Suction
Question:
I have an electrolux Gazelle model no Z4733 and dont have any suction, we have replaced the drive belt and cleaned the filter, and the hose is not blocked
Answer:

Electrolux E130G Attachment Kit
Question:
I am looking for a kit that comes with hose, vacuum etc. for a Centralux, Electrolux E130G

Electrolux 6500 Shuts Off
Question:
How can I fix my electrolux epic 6500 SR vacuum? My vacuum shuts off saying the bag is full when it is not. It runs fine with the hose off but as soon as you put the hose on it shuts off again.
Answer:
You may have a clog in the hose that is tripping a safety in the main unit. The unit has ample air flow without the hose, but when attached it blocks the air. Another issue may be the circuit board in the system or a faulty bag sensor. Contact a local dealer for an inspection at http://builtinvacuum.com/dealers.html

Can A Filter Be Washed?
Question:
Can the large, blue filter be hand washed and reinstalled when thoroughly dry?
Answer:
Yes, the foam filters can be washed and reinstalled when dry.

Low Voltage Measured At Inlet
Question:
I have Electrolux E130A which does not turn on at the direct low voltage hose switch. It used to work fine for more than 9 years. The low voltage measured at the unit outlet is far below 24VDC (I measured around 2VDC) and if I shorten it at the unit the motor turns on. Does it mean I need to replace the board? Is the low voltage outlet supposed to give 24VDC or 24VAC? The relay and the transformer in my unit are soldered on the circuit board... Nash, Toronto
Answer:
That low of voltage will not be able to work with your hose.  A quick comparison of the measurement at each inlet and right at the unit itself will let you know if there is a problem with the wires or the unit.  A low measurement right at the unit will tell you that you need a new circuit board.  If it is strong there but low at the inlets, then there is a break in the wires somewhere that needs to be repaired.

Centralux E130F Stopped Working
Question:
Question: I have a Aerus Centralux model E130F central vac system. I was using the unit and it just stopped working? I checked the circuit breaker and it was not tripped. I pushed in the white reset button on the motor and still nothing? Do you have any suggestions as to what I might try to fix the unit? Could it be the motor? Thank you, Scott S.
Answer:
This could be a problem with the hose not activating the unit, or a bad motor not turning on.  Follow our troubleshooting guide to do some quick tests on the system to determine where the problem is and what to do to fix, http://builtinvacuum.com/education/troubleshoot.html

Electrolux Bag Sensor
Question:
Hi. I'm Tom from Staten Island. I have an Electrolux Epic Series 6500 SR and it stopped working indicatin the bag was full. I replaced the bag and filter with Model C Aerus bag and the unit started but then immediately stopped with an indication that the bag was full again. I tried a second, brand new bag. Same result. I opened the door, took out the bag and held down the button/switch by hand and the motor ran fine all while I held the switch down by hand even when there was no bag in the chamber. I put the new bag back in, started it and held the button/switch down by hand and it ran but as soon as I let go of the switch and the cardboard front on the bag pressed on the switch, it stopped immediately with an indication that the bag is full. Could you please help me? Thank you.
Answer:
You may just have a bad switch on the unit that won't stay in enough to allow the unit to run.  You can try contacting Electrolux at www.electroluxusa.com to verify and see if replacement parts are available.

Aerus E130F With No Power
Question:
Jon from Sioux Falls, SD. What is the approximate age of the Aerus Model E130F? I am guessing its probably original to my home...1990? It was working great, next time I went to use it...nothing. I ordered a new hose, filter etc. from you thinking they may be the culprit...I got them yesterday, and still no luck. I replaced the connectors on the low voltage wire as they were a bit loose and nothing. Is it worth repairing or just replace the unit with one of your Silent Master units? Thank you.

Reset Switch?
Question:
Where can I locate a new reset switch for an Electrolux model # E130A. Rich Long Beach Ca.
Answer:
If you are looking for the minibreaker on the main unit in the garage or basement then you actually need a new circuit board. We have that for a fraction of what Electrolux sells them for. Here it is and please do not use the yellow wire, just ignore the sensor near the filter or the unit will always run. http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=235S

Reset Button Pops after New Motor
Question:
I have a 1590 Electrolux vacuum. The motor was replaced and now the reset button pops after 15 minutes use. You push reset in and units runs again then reset pops after another 10-15 minutes. Do I need new Board? Denis Southington,CT
Answer:
Yes, you need a new board. Our part number 235S. Be sure you do not use the yellow wires on the board. You will not be hooking up the sensor near the motor that verifies the filter is in place. If you do the unit will always run. Just ignore that fuction and let the wires on the board just sits in space.

Have to Uplug Main Unit
Question:
I have an Electrolux Central Vacuum Model 1590. We just moved into a new house and the vacum was working great. Then all of a sudden, one time I was using the vacuum and the unit stayed just stauyed on. Now, the only way to turn it off is if we unplug the vacuum. Is it the circuit board? Thanks, Danny
Answer:
First, congratulations on the home and central vac! Disconnect the wire lead at the vacuum unit and see if it turns on without the low voltage lead connected. If it stays on then replace the board with our part #235S. If it doesn't then you have a short somewhere.

Parts for Electrolux 4580 Central Vacuum
Question:
My paper work when I bought the central vacuum, says model Electrolux 4580 distinctly, and also I bought one for my daughters house in 2001, and her's is also model 4580 on the paper work. On the outside of the vacuum the plate it states model E130A - 120 volts. The motor is burned out, so I need to replace it.

We also have complete attachment kits and accessories that fit those kits. Usually the hose with your system was not industry standard, however your wall ports always are so you can use any new hose or complete new hose and tool kit.

Question:
Electrolux 1590 Motor: The motor would kick on and off when I unplug it before shutting down. Now it has tripped the house breaker and won't stay running. Do I need a new motor or circuit board? Bob

Hi Bob, sounds like you need a motor. Slap the unit, if the motor starts when it was dead instead of supposed to be working then it is the motor. Also, if all you hear is a click when trying to start it then it is the motor that needs replacing.

New to Central Vac
Question:
I just rented a house with a central vac unit Electrolux/Aerus Model #1590. Does this unit need filter bags and how do I find an instruction manual? Are there any more attachments available? I have the floor and stair tool? I would like to use this unit but not sure what I am doing and don't want to ruin it.
Answer:
Hi, you will love using a central vac. Though they seem complicated they are really quite simple and easy to update and work with. Your unit is filtered with only a foam filter (#730EXF). The only maintenance it needs is dumping the bucket from below and banging out the filter (or washing it and letting it completely dry). The wall ports inside the home are industry standard. That means you can use any hose sold here, along with any accessories, and any complete hose and tool kit. If your current hose clip-locks into the accessories then it is not a standard hose. We suggest buying any new complete kit so you have a hose and accessories together. Start here http://builtinvacuum.com/help/electrolux/kits.html. The kits are in order of cleanability. Let us know if you have any questions.

Bang on Motor Housing -- Motor Runs
Question:
I have an electrolux model 1590 central vacuum. The motor stopped running but when you bang on the motor housing it starts to run. Any idea on what the problem may be?
Answer:
That is the sign that the motor needs to be replaced. It has used up its hours and the carbon brushes are not making good contact with the armature in the motor. If the motor is not too old (used less than 600 hours) you may be able to replace the motor brushes which we sell as well as the motor. Search our site with the replacement motor 11XXXX number to find the brushes. If you have any questions let us know.

Question:
I have an Electrolux Model 1590 that we finally installed. There were no bags included when we unpacked the vacuum. What bags should we get? Karin MI

Filter Removal and No Suction
Question:
I have a Centralux by Aerus central vac and I'm not sure how to take the filter out or how to clean it. I can't find instructions in the manual. Also, the powerhead works fine when I turn it on, but when I put the crevice tool on, there was no power at all. Could this be because the filter needs cleaning? Loretta-Vancouver
Answer:
Hello Loretta, usually customers think the suction is on when they hear the power nozzle but it actually isn't on because it is not turning on when the nozzle is not being used. Basically the noise makes you think the suction is working. The vacuum is just picking up debris and packing it into itself. So you have two issues. First the suction, which you can trouble shoot here www.builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html. The other is the filter. The filter sits in the middle of the can and you take it out after you remove the bottom bucket and unclip the bottom of the filter or twist the entire thing.

You should not need a new board, just the motor.

Odd Electrical Issues
Question:
I have an Electrolux 1590 which is 10 years old. It sometimes runs continuously unless I unplug the unit. If I disconnect low voltage wires it stops running. I thought it was a short but have reran a new wire from the unit to the first outlet, disconnected the others, and it still runs continuously "sometimes". It will be fine and when I come home it is running all by itself again. I mess with it, it starts working fine and then starts running continuously a few days later. Can it be the circuit board? Rafael, Baton Rouge
Answer:
Yes you need a new circuit board. Many customers use our #235S...please read what they are saying about it in the QandA under Electrolux and the board itself here: http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=235S

Circuit Board and Diagram
Question:
I have an Aerus Central Vac unit that needs a new motor circuit board. The unit model number is E130G, and the board has a model number MC-2XA 483 on it. Can you supply this part? Thank You, Mike Worth
Answer:

Suction Stays On
Question:
I have a Centralux E130F. it is about 4 years old. everything was working fine until one day last week, it would not shut off. the switch on the hose no longer worked. is it the switch? or something else? the only way to shut it off is to pull the plug where the canister plugs into the wall.

780023 Filter Replacement
Question:
I have an Air Vac central vac system, model VM212. Presently it has a pleated filter 6 1/2" diameter X 8" deep protected by metal screening (Part number 780023, sku #7 27066 04775 5) covered with a 1" thick foam filter. Is it possible to find replacement parts for this combination of filters? Alternately, I could use the 8" x 8" foam filter. Would this work as well as what I am presently using?
Answer:
We have been selling the 8x8 inch foam for the VM212 for many years without any issues. The combination you speak of should be no different. We know that Electrolux was changing back and forth to different types of filtration and that they are interchangeable.

Carbon Dust - All Motors
Question:
I have been searching for an answer to the problem of the carbon dust emissions from our Electrolux Central Vac. Not only is it unhealthy, but it leaves a film on the walls, cabinets etc. in our laundry room where the unit is installed. I found your blog on "Eliminating Harmful Central Vacuum Carbon Dust Emissions" and was relieved to hear that this indeed is a problem with some motors. You then offered two solutions; one being the Silent Master Model SR. Will the Silent Master Model SR motor fit our Electrolux - Model no. 1590? If it will fit, is it available in Canada? Norma
Answer:
The SR replacement is the entire unit (all brands that don't deal well with carbon dust, and most don't) and yes, you would hand the new unit on your wall and us the existing tubing and wire. This one of a kind vacuum motor has no carbon brushes and is longer lasting than tradition carbon brush motors in all central vacuums. It is "expensive" though. Yes, we can send it to Canada, please call us for more information, it is not available online.

Foam - Blue or Yellow, or Cartridge Filter
Question:
I have a Electrolux Model 1590 central vac... I need a new foam filter. My old one is light in color and measures approximately 4 inches across and may 6 inches high and fits snugly. The dealer has a foam filter at least 2x the size of my original. It is blue and the dealer insists it is made for and will fit (by forcing it) where the old filter fit. Are you aware of this new foam filter and does it, in fact, fit (can it be forced into the area) Thanks Joe Auffarth
Answer:
We commonly sell a 6X6 inch filter for Electrolux. It can also take the blue ridged one or a paper pleated one. The foam ones can be forced on with the washer at the bottom but that is not ideal.

Low Suction
Question:
I have a Electrolux 1590 about 14 year old and it is not sucking. The filter is clean hoses and I have two are not blocked. Let me ask a stupid ? at the bottom of the muffler unit on the side should the bottom have a cap on it? mine does not you just feel strong air pouring out when unit is on. Should this be capped and that is the problem? I am stumped. thanks
Answer:
Don't cap the exhaust! Follow these simple steps to find the issue www.builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html

Shuts Off - Why?
Question:
My electrolux sweeper shuts off even with an empty bag in it as if it was full...I have not found any thing plugged up or blocking the hose. What could be wrong?
Answer:
Sounds like your vacuum motor is going bad.

Will Not Start for a While
Question:
I have Centralux Model E130A. After using the vacuum for a period of time and switching it off, we are unable to restart.. Sometimes the house electrical circuit breaker is popped, sometimes it starts up later. I've seen mention of the "circuit board" or possibly the "motor" being the culprit. What do you believe is the problem? Which parts would you recommend? Thanks.
Answer:

Low Voltage Wires Connection
Question:
Our Electrolux model 1590 worked for a few minutes after we bought the house and then quit. I have cleaned the filter & emptied the canister. The low voltage wires don't seem to connect to the canister. Where do they plug into the canister? Bill
Answer:
They connect on the side of the top part of the vacuum unit. There are two connectors for two wires.

No Suction
Question:
There is no suction through the hose from any of the outlets. We put a snake through the hose and it's clear. How do we trouble-shoot and fix from here? Can we open the pvc piping?
Answer:
You need to systematically go through this troubleshooting chart. It is easy to do.

Weak Suction
Question:
I have a 14 year old Electrolux Centralux E130A system. The motor runs fine but there is only about 1/2 the amount of suction we used to get. I labeled 5 Styrofoam balls and put them in each inlet and all five made it to the tank so there are no obstructions. I have a new filter. I replaced the motor but it didn't change anything. I have take the intake line from the home off the unit, turn the unit on and the suction there is strong. What else could be causing the low suction. I hate to toss this system when it used to work so well.
Answer:
Did you run the balls through the hose? Most clogs are in the hose. Also, do a pressure check for any broken pipes. Basically put your hand over the hose while it is running. You should hear the vacuum rev up higher, like going into overdrive, if you have a completely sealed system.

Turns On/Off Rapidly
Question:
I have an E130 Centralux that is about 4 years old. After it has been running a few minutes, it begins turning itself on and off, about as fast as you could turn the switch on and off on the hose control. It is not the hose or switches (brand new stealth setup I bought from you that is awesome!). It does the same thing when I jump the 24 volt switch on the outside of the unit. I am guessing it is either the circuit board or motor, but I would expect the motor to stay off for a while if it were overheating, any ideas? Thanks
Answer:
Start with the circuit board . 99% chance that is it.

Electrolux 1205 Motor
Question:
I have an Electrolux model 1205 (over 30 years old). The motor in the main canister is tired. Can I get a new one? How much will it cost?
Answer:
Wow, that is an old one. I am sure you can find the motor and we can help. Please call us when you are at the motor and we can walk you through the measurements and descriptions we need to determine what motor it is.

Depending on the age of the vacuum you want to familiarize yourself with this PDF of wiring the motor. Otherwise, you will be fine and we are here to help you.

Breaker Pops with Vacuum Turns On.
Question:
Hello, we have a built-in Electrolux Model 1590 and it was installed sometime in 2004. It used to work, but now when we plug the nozzle into the wall receptical the unit blows the breaker. Any idea as to why this could be? Thanks, N. LeBlanc
Answer:
Typically that is because the motor is bad and it's initial draw is too great, thus popping the breaker. If the breaker is 15 amp this is really possible.

Electrolux E130A Motor and Board
Question:
Need replacement motor for my Electrolux Central Vacuum Model E130A. Motor label reads: 6600-1, ECV B-9, 120VAC, 60Hz and has a tapered bottom and 2-stage tangential discharge. My central vac system has the electrical super valves (inlets) and the circuit board with the low voltage connections. The circuit board has the same components, electrical connectors (flat brass flag tabs), and layout as the P/N 235S circuit board displayed on this web site.
Answer:
Yes, the motor you need is the 119631 and on the page where this is posted you will see a link that has the wiring diagram. The board you mentioned is also in the diagram and works with the Electrolux models http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=235S.

Electrolux Motor and Board Diagram?
Question:
Do you have a diagram for this? Thank you.
Answer:
Yes, here is a wiring diagram for our circuit board http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=235S. What is not on the diagram is the yellow wires on the new circuit board need to be ignored. If you have wires connecting near the filter/motor you'll have to give these up (it is only a filter-in status). Good news is you save a lot of money with our generic board.

Electrolux 1590 Motor
Question:
I have Electrolux Central Vacuum Model 1590. The number on my motor is 6766-07 LAMB. Height 8 3/8", blower housing 5 11/16", mounting bolt length 3 1/16". Will your motor #116765 replace my motor? Thank you. Paul Culbertson
Answer:
Yes, this is the motor you need.

Leaking Motor Gasket?
Question:
Will a damaged or partially missing gasket cause low suction (i.e. is the motor pulling air from the outside rather than through the filter?) I have low suction at all outlets but the exit port (outside) seems to be blowing pretty strong. I found a piece of gasket (assume it is the motor gasket) inside the plastic piece which the filter slides over. My unit is the Electrolux Model 1590.
Answer:
Yes, that could be a problem. Be sure to go through the troubleshooting guide to eliminate other possibilities.

Electrolux (Centralux) E 130A Circuit Board
Question:
I have an Electrolux (Centralux) E 130A and the motor kept running once disconnected in the wall outlet in the house. The the circuit breaker on the circuit board did not trip but the motor burned out. I changed the motor and the vacuum still does not work. The next step I want to perform is to change the board. Will this board work on the E 130A? If so, any other suggestions/ changes to make? Jim
Answer:
Yes, this is the board you want. Also, ignore the yellow wires, don't connect them to filter/motor connection if you had them on your last one. To save money using this board you'll have to forego the filter-in status.

Electrolux Wiring Under Motor Near Filter? Filter-in Status?
Question:
Could you be more specific regarding which wires under the motor connected to a sensor you are referring? When you say bypass, does that mean connect together or no connection at all? I replaced the motor and don't recall any wires connected under the motor. The only wires are the two connections supplying 115vac. Thanks Dan
Answer:
Some E130A models had two low voltage wires running up under the motor and some may not have. Our board has input for the wires from the 110 volts and then it has two wires for the low voltage output which you should ignore. If you hook them up to the filter-in status near the filter then the vacuum will always stay on. The benefit of our #235S board is a huge cost savings, you just have to forego the filter-in status.

Electrolux E130A Cuts Out, Trips Circuit Breaker
Question:
I have an Electrolux E130A and the motor keeps cutting out and tripping the circuit breaker on the control board. Changed the motor and same problem. I want to change the board. Will this board work on the E130A? If so, any changes to make? Dan A.
Answer:
Yes, this circuit board will work for your E130A but the wires connected to the sensor under the motor will have to be bypassed. No biggie, just make sure to empty your vacuum regularly because I think it was an automatic kill if your unit filled all the way up. (If you buy from MD with your email address we send you reminders to empty your unit every 4 months).
