Low Suction CV2002-B
Question:
what kind of filter would i need for a cv2002B mega boss central vac? it used to have mega power and lift up carpet and now wont pick up a feather.
Answer:
Sorry, we don't have a cross reference for that but it really shouldn't be the filter that is making it weak. In fact, you can remove the filter and test the suction. For other suction issues see www.builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html

Keeps Running Without Hose or Low Volt
Question:
I have an eureka CV 1001D and the motor keeps on running even if the vacuum hose is not connected and the low voltage wires are disconnected. I have to unplug from the wall outlet to shut it down. What could be the problem. Thanks
Answer:
The relay is bad or there is an on/off switch on the tank that is in the "on" position. If you need a relay see if our 235S would be a good replacement. http://builtinvacuum.com/parts/electrical/boards.html. You can replace all the individual components with a single circuit board.

Go Filterless?
Question:
I have a eureka maxima and my filters always clog with dirt my question is can I use the sweeper without the filter ? Miranda walton wv
Answer:
Sorry, you have to use the filters to keep the motor from getting debris in it. There should be a bag and a disk filter which leave the disk filter cleaner that what you are describing. The filter is here http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=723EB

Silencer Ironsides
Question:
I have the Central vacuum called eureka the silencer Ironsides. What would be the best power head to have. Take into consideration I have pets
Answer:
The best vacuum head would be the Stealth, then the Ace. Hopefully you are in a position to buy the kit that includes the brush and the hose along with the connection wands so they all fit together correctly. If you need help determining if your current hose will work please call us. Here are the complete kits http://builtinvacuum.com/help/eureka/kits.html

No Suction for Floor Tools
Question:
My power head is working but when I take it off to vaccuum the wood floor, the hose and attachment won't start. So when the plug is out and the head is off, nothing works.
Answer:
It may be that the vacuum nozzle is working but the suction isn't. The sound of the nozzle sounds like the air is on too but it may not be. Without the nozzle connected, see if there is suction when the switch is put in the right and left positions. Use our troubleshooting guide http://builtinvacuum.com/help/eureka/flowchart.html if there is no suction in either or replace the switch if there is suction on only one side http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=352GS,352GH.

Clicking Noise, No Suction
Question:
I have a Eureka megaboss central vac that just stopped working. I took the cover off because I heard a clicking noise when I tried turning it off and on. I noticed there was a little burnt location on the circuit board. Could that be the cause? If so, is it possible to order a new circuit board?
Answer:
When you turn the vacuum on and off there should be a clicking noise at the tank. That is the relay transferring the power to the motor. Most likely the motor is out. Whack the motor and try again to see if it starts (it may shut off soon after because it is bad). Let us know what you find.

CV1801N Bad Motor or Breaker?
Question:
I have a Eureka Altima CV1801N and it was running fine up until a couple of days ago, now it doesn't see to be getting any power (both the Red and Green lights are not lit). I have tested the outlet and it is find. There is a threaded button on the unit and I have unscrewed the washer around it and tried pushing it in - it just pops out. I am assuming that is a reset of some sort. The unit came with the house and a search for a manual on the unit has proved fruitless. Is the motor shot? Is there another "reset" or test that I am missing?
Answer:
It sounds like the minibreaker has sprung which is usually due to a bad motor. However the breaker may go bad too especially after the motor goes bad. Here are the parts we propose it would take to get the unit running, or you can spend hundreds more for a new vacuum unit complete. http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=199,221,235S If you want a new vacuum unit you can use any brand and we recommend the Flo-Master C650 http://builtinvacuum.com/flomaster/compare.html

Spits Debris from the Head
Question:
I have a Eureka Boss Quiet Kleen Ctl Vac.The brush wand works & has suction from the hose. The powerhead spits back dust/pet hair/whatever it picks up.I took the powerhead for service. They replaced the belt & said it works fine.I still have the same problem as B4.I borrowed another working powerhead to test it at my home & it also spits everything back.I emptied the cannister & shook the attached bag to have the dirt/hair/dust fall into the cannister & it doesn?t help. It's a mystery why the brush wand & hose w/o attachments work but the powerhead doesn't pick up properly & spits everything back.I have a cat & 2 shedding dogs with a lot of carpet to do which is tough with just the brush.Pls advise/suggest ASAP as to what could B wrong or what can B done.Thx
Answer:
This usually means there is no suction in the right switch position. Without the wands and head on the hose handle try the right position switch to see if there is suction. If not, replace the switch. Is there is then check the wands for a clog.

World Vac Not Working
Question:
Eureka World Vac suddenly won't turn on I have a World Vac Cv1601 B that won't turn on. No lights either. Tested the outlet is fine. Tried the reset button, all to no avail. It had turned off the last time I had used it but the reset button worked. Now it won't reset. Any thoughts? Thanks, Matt - Toronto
Answer:
If it will not reset then the motor and most likely the reset button (circuit board) need to be replaced. http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=199,221,235S,how2mtr&qty=1,1&title=Motor+for+Eureka Please do a visual check to be sure the motor is correct.

Cloth and Paper Filter in Same Unit
Question:
I HAVE A EURUKA QUIET CLEAN MODEL PU3650B. IT HAS A PERMANENT, WEIGHTED, CLOTH FILTER, AND PAPER BAGS. IS THE PAPER COLLECTION BAG NECESSARY?
Answer:
You don't need both if you only use the cloth one, BUT if you want the paper bag you have to use both because the cloth acts as a precautionary filter if the paper breaks.

Connections Burning Out
Question:
I am having problems with my carpet beater. The plug on the carpet beater and the plug that attaches to the hose overheats and is melting the plastic or rubber aroung the connections. Is this common? When turning carpet beater on do you have to shut vacuum to off position first (if you are using regular floor vacuuming) before switching to carpet position. I can smell rubbering buring and my electrical connections look burnt. Would this be an arching problem. Has there been any recalls for the problem. brenda bc canada
Answer:
This is not an uncommon area of failure as the vacuum ages. You may be able to replace the parts themselves. Please send us photos of the parts so we can help.

Eureka Exhausting Dust
Question:
hello, I have a eureka powerline limited edition in a house we bought. when I open the can and empty it, pulled the cloth filter out and cleaned it, put everything back the way it was and now dust coming out of the exhaust into the garage? I've made sure everything is back the way it was but still can pin point why is it happening? thank you, Dan Thornhill Ontario
Answer:
Either the bag is in the wrong position and below the intake on the unit, or there is a hole in the bag allowing dust to go through.

Muffler Came Off Unit
Question:
Have you ever heard of a muffler blowing off. If so, what would cause this?
Answer:
If the muffler is not secured to the exhaust or has some obstruction in it, the pressure of the escaping air will push it off. Be sure that the muffler is tight on the unit exhaust or pipe extension. Check the inside of the muffler to ensure that there is nothing inside that can be reducing air flow.

Eureka CV1801D Filter
Question:
is there filter in the cv1801d? thanks
Answer:
Yes, the cloth bag that is hanging down when you remove the bottom canister is the filter.  You can replace it with the bag found here, http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=710B,711B

Eureka Model 1460 Won't Pick Up Dirt
Question:
mary miss.eureka model460 styleAZ DOES not pick up dirt

Buy Hose and Head Separately?
Question:
I have a Eureka central vac CV1820B. Can I buy a new hose and power head for it because the motor and acc. are doing fine?
Answer:
Actually, the hose, head and connecting wands all cost more if bought alone than in a complete kit. We recommend the kit for this reason and so that the wands fit the head and hose correctly. The accessories you already have will fit the hose and wands. Here is the kit page for Eureka http://builtinvacuum.com/help/eureka/kits.html

Eureka CV18 Unit Working But No Suction
Question:
My Eureka CV MCU 18 was working fine, and suddenly has very little suction... the hose is not blocked and all inlets are closing properly... the motor turns on when I plug the hose in, but makes no noise at the inlet and has very little suction... the cannister and hanging cloth filter are clean... any ideas? Andrea
Answer:
If your power unit is turning on normally and there is strong suction right at the unit but no suction at the inlets, then you have a clog.  You will need to contact your local repairman to have the pipeline cleared. http://builtinvacuum.com/dealers.html

Unit Not Turning On
Question:
The 24 volt circuit light is on. But the vacuum is not turning on. Its 12 years old.
Answer:
You may have an issue with the motor, or with the hose not activating the unit. Follow our trouble shooting guide to narrow down the problem at http://builtinvacuum.com/education/troubleshoot.html

Boss Reset Button
Question:
i have the eureka 12 amp The Boss wide track: the carpet brush just stopped spinning...is there a reset button to fix that?

Most Outlets Not Activating The Vacuum
Question:
Jim from toronto I have a ECV2002A Meg Boss central vac.The machine does not come on from any of the 4 outlets in the house (no power). It only work from the outlet next to the vacume in the garage. how can i solve this problem?
Answer:
If one of your inlets works, but the rest do not, then there is a break in the wires. Start at the inlet that is working and follow the wire to check all connections.  Over time the low voltage wires that connect the inlet to the unit can work themselves loose.

Unit Louder After Cleaning The Filter
Question:
we have a eureka boss plus built in vac system. i just cleaned the filter outside. now the unit is 3 times as loud. any suggestions ? dave in oliver, b.c canada
Answer:
Double check your exhaust, it may be blocked causing the motors to run louder.

Unit Turns On Without The Hose Connected
Question:
I have a Eureka Boss Plus Model CV1801. It has only been used 3 or 4 times. The vacuum cleaner just went on by itself and I had to unplug it to get it to stop. I was not using the vacuum cleaner at the time.
Answer:
There could be a short in the low voltage wires that connect the unit to the inlets in the walls, or you could have a faulty relay. Follow our troubleshooting guide to locate the issue at http://builtinvacuum.com/education/troubleshoot.html

Question:
Hi my built in eureka vacuum just stopped. I was vacuuming and suddenly nothing. Checked and its getting power. Let it sit for a bit and then it went on again but soon stopped. This problem 1st happened two months ago had the circuit board replaced and then 3 wks later happened again and they replaced the board again. Now this is the 3rd time and wondering if the problem is different than the circuit board. Can you help? Thanks much appreciated! Morinville, Alberta

You may have clogged filters that are causing the system to overheat, or it might be a bad motor. Follow our troubleshooting guide to locate the issue at http://builtinvacuum.com/education/troubleshoot.html

Are Bags Needed In My Vacuum?
Question:
Is the paper bag in the cannister an option on a model CV2101X? Can the cannister be used as a dust receptacle? Tom Stratford ON Canada
Answer:
The bags in your vacuum are the filters.  If your unit came with bags, then keep using them, they are keeping the debris from getting into your motors and destroying them.

Eureka Filter Installation
Question:
How do you place the filter in the right way on a ECV2002A Meg Boss.\? It dropped into the canister and warns to place it properly according to manuel instructions. I do not have this manuel anymore. Please help.
Answer:
Place one side of the cloth filter ring into the retainer slot inside the vacuum. Pull the opposite end towards the center, then slide the remaining bag up into the vacuum. Once the bag ring is level, release the ring to rest inside the retainer slot. Give it a tug to make sure it is seated properly. If it doesn't come out, then it is in correct.

CV1601K Motor Brush
Question:
Eureka CV1601K - motor sparking. Noticed brush is chipped. I need replacement brushes - please help. Max, Brampton.

Question:
Julie in Invermere, BC, Canada I am looking for a replacement motor for my Eureka Boss CV1801f. I assume it is the motor that has gone because it was running extremely loud over the last few days. Now there is black soot type material on the wall beside the motor and it shut down. Do you have this motor in stock? My search did not come up with one on your site. Thanks very much.
Answer:

Upstair Vacuum Inlets Not Working
Question:
3 wall units work downstairs but the 3 units upstair will not work. Have checked wiring but no success
Answer:
Most likely the wire leading to the upstairs has been compromised in the basement, attic, or crawl space. Have you recently had work done on the home? If you can't find the "break" then you may have to use this remote starter here. It is easy to install and use and separate clickers are available. http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=145,145KT

Eureka CV Series Loss Of Suction
Question:
Hi there, I just moved into a 6-7 year old house and the Eureka CV107F central vac doesn't have any suction. When I feel the cloth filter it feels like there's a whole clump of dirt/dust that is sitting in the bottom of the filter. Is this the reason why there's no suction? How can I get rid of that dirt? Thanks Steph
Answer:
Loss in suction is usually the sign of a bad motor.  You can follow our troubleshooting guide here, http://builtinvacuum.com/education/troubleshoot.html to help determine the issue.  Should you need a replacment motor, you can find those listed at http://builtinvacuum.com/help/eureka/motor.html#motor.  Should need help in finding the right part, don't hesitate to give us a call.

Boss Bags
Question:
I bought a house with a Eureka Mega Boss central vac. Looks like model # is CV20020 (12.4 amps, 120 volts). Any idea where to get the bags that connect with a collar inside the canister? Neil (Ottawa, Canada)
Answer:

Replace Motor or Unit?
Question:
I have an Eureka CV918. The motor has QUIT. Do I buy a "replacement motor", or a whole NEW UNIT? If so, which brand is the best MODEL for the money? Barb, Warren, MI
Answer:
Typically owners replace the motor because it costs less. If you want to go that route then the motor is found here http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=199,221,how2mtr&qty=1,1&title=Motor+for+Eureka+CV918+Models. On the other hand, a new unit will cost 3 to 5 times that of the motor. Reasons owners sometimes buy a new unit is to get a new filtration style such as a disposable bag version, or to get a quieter machine, or to replace a banged up unit.

One Inlet Not Working
Question:
one of my upstairs inlet is not working ,how can i fixt it--thank you bench
Answer:

Installing Cloth Filter
Question:
YesI have a central vacum system the best Eureka.I have taken canster off and cleaned it also theCloth filter bag.I put it back last week and now there is dust and dirt coming into the garage. Canyou tell me how to install filter bag correctly Thanks Neville Surrey B.C.
Answer:
The center weighted cloth filter snaps into a groove above the intake line. It should stay in place there as before. If there are any rips in the filter it will let dust through so please look for that too.

Eureka CV107H Replacement?
Question:
I have a 2007 model Eureka CV107H that the power carpet head quit on. My hose etc. is fine so what do you recommend, just a power head or a whole new kit. My current hose has low voltage connection to power on/off the main unit, and a 8' pigtail 110V cord to power the carpet head. Thanks.
Answer:
Most likely MD doesn't sell a compatible brush to fit your existing hose. Since your hose is well, you should replace only the brush so you save money (though, if you wanted, all our electric kits with pigtail cord will fit your system). To verify if any of our electric brushes will fit your hose take a look at the hose they do fit. See the photo on the bottom right of this page and take a look at the measurement. If yours matches then click on our Carpet Brushes > Electric and choose the Stealth, Ace (with additional wands), or BlackHawk. If not then please do a Google search for Beam and contact them for any compatible products.

Eureka or Electrolux Hoses
Question:
I have a CV1801 central vac that was installed in 1993 or 94. It has served me well, but I have broken the power touch handle. It still works but I am afraid it will eventually break off. I don't have a local dealer who sells and services these vacs, although I did buy from a local dealer at the time. Can I order just the part I need? I am sure it would include the 30 foot hose since it is attached. How do I order, I don't have a part number. Thank you for any help you can give me. Paula Cullman, Alabama
Answer:
We have the hoses used in the Electrolux systems here http://builtinvacuum.com/help/electrolux.html. Hoses are not tied into the model of the main unit. Please use the information on this page to find what hose you need. Most likely you can figure that out as easy as looking at them.

Vent the Exhaust?
Question:
I have a Eureks Mega Boss central vacuum system that has been installed in my outside vented crawl space since 1997. Recently we have sealed up the crawl space and installed a central heating system. Effectively this space is now part of the living area. My question is can I vent the vacuum outside the crawwl space? It will require a 90 elbow, about 10 ft of pipe and a discharge damper. Will this affect performance? An alternative is to relocate the vacuum unit closer to an outside wall but this is more complicated.
Answer:
Hi, you are fine venting the exhaust as you have said. You can go twice as far and still be fine. We have the parts you need http://builtinvacuum.com/install_shop/pipe-fittings.html

Eureka Boss CV497 Motor
Question:
i have a eureka boss ironside 3 stage motor the model no is cv497b. what type of replacement motor do i need? thank you.
Answer:
Hi, that brand is made by Beam (owned by Electrolux). See the Beam motors here. There are 397 models. See if the motor looks like yours. It is not difficult to find a matching motor. Click on the motor details for measurements and detailed photo for comparison. http://builtinvacuum.com/help/beam/motor.html

How Loud?
Question:
Hi, I have a Eureka Boss CV1801 in our new house. How loud is this thing supposed to be??? It is CRAZY loud down in the basement where the unit is while it's running. I'm afraid it might be messed up somehow but can't tell. Thanks, Brad. Cinci, OH
Answer:
Hi Brad, click on the Regular Central Vac sound bit on this page http://builtinvacuum.com/silent_master/index.html. It should sound like that. If noisier then it is going bad most likely. No biggie though. If you can stand the noise let it die and then replacement unit or the motor inside it.

Smells After Filter Replaced
Question:
I have a eureka victory model 4351.I took out the motor filter and washed it.When dry put it back in along with new bag. When I turned the vacuum on ther was noise and a smell. I looked to check the bag was fitted okay and found the motor filter had disappeared. Pleas help
Answer:
Hi, most likely that is coincidence. If the smell is like burning electrical then the motor is going bad, overheating. The filter was totally dry and not caked with dirt after you used it again, or that would be the problem. You can run the machine without a filter to see if the smell is there after some time being on but it sounds like the motor may need to replaced.

Replace Inlet Port on Wall
Question:
I am trying to find the inlet that will fit the Eureka CV700 Central Vacuum System....This is for my friend's mother so I don't know any other specifics...Lyn, Tampa
Answer:
Hi Lyn, take a look at the Basic and Electric inlets. It is one of those regardless of the door shape itself.

Eureka CV900 Motor
Question:
Hello - I have a Eureka Model CV900 Type B 120 V 10 Amp. I need a replace motor - can you provide. Thanks - Robin Bennett
Answer:
Hi Robin, the motor is right here, in-stock, and can be easily replaced http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=207,221,how2mtr&qty=1,1&title=Motor+for+Eureka+CV900.

Smelly, Dirty Exhaust
Question:
I have a Eureka Mega Boss. Is air supposed to come out of the top pipe? It's about a 1 1/2 inch pipe with pretty good pressure coming out of it. I'm not sure if that is where the motor has to breathe or if something is malfunctioning. All of a sudden there is a smell when we vacuum, and maybe a little cloudy air around the vacuum unit, (it is in the basement)could that be it?
Answer:
Hi, everything sounds correct and you need to know that when a motor starts to go bad it may smell like burning electrical and extra carbon dust may come off the motor. Also be sure the filtration has no holes in it or dust will exhaust.

Eureka Model SV601D
Question:
Eureka Model SV601D about 20 years old motor is burned out, need replacement motor.
Answer:
Hi, it is most likely one of these two motors http://builtinvacuum.com/retail/shopretail.php?part_no=209,199,221,how2mtr. Measure the height of yours and compare it to the details when you click one of the motor links. Also the widest section of these motors is under six inches. Yours should be too. Let us know if you need more help.

Troubleshooting
Question:
I have a Eureka Mega Boss . The hose switch will work on rug beater but will not activate vacuum ! Is this a switch problem or would hose not be wired for vacuum turn on ? Howard
Answer:
Hi, please use this guide to find the issue www.builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html and see if it is the low voltage wire or motor.

Eureka Tripped???
Question:
My Eureka central vacuum works fine until today. I vacuumed and all of sudden I got no power. I went to the system and found out that "limit switch" (I think that is what it calls) was out. I pushed it back in and turned the vacuum on. The system (or motor) started but then tripped again. I took the hose out and push the limit switch back in and started the system again. The motor would started and then tripped again. Could you please help me with this problem? Thanks
Answer:
Hi, you need a new motor. Sometimes the "minibreaker" goes bad too but that is from the motor going bad. It is not too hard at all to replace the motor. Find your model number here and take a look. http://builtinvacuum.com/help/eureka.html

Always Runs
Question:
I have a Eureka Boss CV1801G and the unit will not power down. I have removed the hose from any contact and the unit still continues to run until the power is cut. What could the problem be? Thank you in advance. Tony
Answer:
Hello Tony, remove the low voltage wires coming from the home into the Boss unit. If it still runs then the unit relay needs replacement, it is stuck on. If it will shut off (and you can use the toggle switch on the unit to test this) and then back on manually - you need find the compromised wire within the home. You have a short. Anyone recently hang a photograph, work on the home, or seen a rat? If you can't find the issue we have a remote control unit that bypasses the low voltage wire.

Eureka Hose Handle?
Question:
I have a Eureka CV1804B Central Vacuum system. I am looking for a replacement for the Power Touch II Hose Handle which has cracked and is now coming apart (it's basically taped together right now). Eureka made these out of cheap plastic and this is the second time I've had to replace it. The vacuum shop I used last time went out of business. Can you get this part? Or do you have a different part (preferably a lot more durable) that you could recommend? Our power hose is fine, but we just need this hose handle part. Not looking to order a whole new kit. Thanks for your help! Kathy
Answer:
Hello Kathy, sorry but we don't sell that brand. We do sell high quality upgrades though such as our Stealth Kit www.builtinvacuum.com/stealth-kit/ but it doesn't sound like you are ready to jump into that. You may just want to read what our customers are saying about though. And it does fit right into your system.

Vent to Outside?
Question:
should my central vac be vented to the outdoors?? if so, is there an available pipe etc.? Tom London Ontario
Answer:
Hello Tom, venting is not necessary but desirable if you don't like the smell and want less noise. Regular central vacuum pipe and fittings from any central vacuum supplier is what you need to use.

Cleaning the Filter
Question:
I need help in cleaning the filter. Thanks, Phoebe Forest Grove, Oregon
Answer:
Hello Phoebe, typically the dirty cloth filter hanging from the bottom is cleaned up taking a trash bag up around the unit, grabbing the cloth filter and shaking it. The middle center of the bag is filled with weighted material intentionally to assist the vacuum dynamics when operating - you don't clean out the weighted material. Hope that helps!

Eureka CV1801 circuit board?
Question:
will this work on my Eureka CV1801 'D'? Thanks for the online help....I found out it was not the motor w/out electrocuting myself, Jim
Answer:
It is close but not the exact replacement. It does work for all 110 volt single motor central vacuums. We've had homeowners use it without much trouble at all because of the cost savings. It works great. You can try calling Eureka for that part or do a close comparison using the photo online.
