Upgrading to an electrical power brush and hose.

• To upgrade your non-electric hose and power brush to electric:
  
  1. Make sure you have an electrical outlet within 8-feet of each vacuum inlet where you will be using the electrical power brush.

Non-Electric Hose

			Low Voltage Hose. Enjoy the convenience of turning the vacuum on/off at your finger tips. Your inlet valves must have two contact points inside the valve neck for this feature. If not, use the Basic Hose below. <Click Photo to Enlarge See all Low Voltage Hoses / Buy.

			Standard Kit - includes the TT27 entry level air driven power brush. The vacuum starts upon insertion of the hose into the inlet.
			Combo Kit - includes a non-beating combination carpet/floor tool. The vacuum starts upon insertion of the hose into the inlet.

Odd and older types of hose and inlet configurations.

1. NON-STANDARD: Wall inlet valve is NOT between 1 7/16 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter.

   Sears, Kenmore, Whirlpool, Budd, and Black & Decker typically had 1.25 inch diameter vacuum outlets. Unfortunately it is next to impossible to change out your inlet valves to the larger size inlets without ripping open the walls, but you can buy a new high quality crushproof replacement hose for your system. Complete line of products for Sears, Kenmore, Whirlpool and Budd and Black & Decker central vacuums.

2. Inlet valve hole is slightly larger than 1.5 inches. If the inlet valve hole is slightly larger than 1.5 inches, such as older Filtex models (that used a rubber end that go into an all metal inlet), you will need to use a hose with tapered cuff. If you want to replace the inlets you can have a much more functional system. Here is a turtorial of changing out inlet valves from an older Filtex valve with a pop out button. Vacuum power unit starts by lifting valve lid or pushing a valve button.

1. The power unit on/off feature, on hoses with a handle switch, will not function with these valves. But you can use a corded hose to have control over a electric power brush. Or, you could use a non-electric hose, with no switches, and non-electric power brush.

Inlet Valves. The inlets shown on this page represent about 98% of the North American market.

			Electric Inlet Valves They carry electric current for an electric power brush. All electric valves have two small holes above or below the intake hole. (Here is an issue with non-recessed holes that is easily resolved by moving the prongs on new direct connect electrical hoses back one notch. The picture on the left show recessed holes.) 			Non-electric Inlet Valves They have no small holes above or below the intake hole. The valve may have different styles but no small holes. Inlet valves (pictured) have small metal contact points inside the neck of the main hole. When these are crossed (by inserting an all metal hose end or flipping a hose handle switch) the power unit turns on. View / buy non-electric inlet valves.

1. Inlet compatibility. Universal valves have an 1 1/2 inch diameter intake hole. If you have a question, send an inlet valve e-mail to MD.
2. Installing inlets in new or existing homes - see installation page. Make sure there is a small gasket joining the face plate and mounting plate. A gasket is built into newer mounting plates. If you are dealing with older valves or plates or if it is loose and leaks air, use some electricians tape around the face plate neck before inserting it into the mounting plate. Start with about 1.5 wraps tightly around the neck.
