About Galaxie Central Vacuum

Galaxy (or often misspelled, Galaxy) Central Vacuums began installing and distributing central vacuums in Massachusetts in 1965. Within a few years, they began building their own units and eventually transitioned to having another manufacturer produce on their behalf.

MD Vacuum parts are compatible with your Galaxie vacuum. Historically, Galaxie has used quality, metal, 7.2” Ametek motors designed for long life and excellent performance, but has recently introduced units with smaller high-performance motors including thru-flo versions.

Almost all Galaxie units empty from the bottom and contain an inverted cloth filter which they refer to as a Teflon coated HEPA membrane. This keeps a high amount of debris out of the motor without requiring any replacement of disposable bags. There are also optional disposable bags available as part of the filtration system. See detailed emptying instructions in our filtration maintenance section for Galaxie.

A well-maintained Galaxie central vacuum system should provide you with excellent cleaning performance as well as healthy allergy relief. All debris that is picked up is deposited out of your living area including those fine dust particles commonly emitted from portable vacuums. The convenience of a central vacuum system should make your job easier, giving you more time to do the things you prefer.

Galaxie has historically utilized all components that are compatible with the rest of the industry including their pipe and fittings, inlets, motors, circuit boards, hoses, attachments, and power brushes.

Galaxie units are also available with an “Si Option”. The unit includes Datasync which allows the user to reduce the suction at the hose end by reducing the speed of the remote motor. It also provides a time-based notification of when to empty the tank or when to service the unit. Unfortunately, the device does not measure suction loss, so therefore your tank may need to be emptied more often if you pick up large quantities of dust or fluff.

If you can't find what you need, please contact us by phone or through the Questions and Answers for Galaxie. One of our helpful technical customer service representatives will point you in the right direction. We also have a large network of independent dealers that can assist you with a Galaxie central vac repair, if needed.

We are very happy with this purchase. It was totally compatible with our seventeen-year-old Galaxie central vac system and after receiving it my only wish was that I had purchased it sooner!
